Did you hear it? The sound of winter finally GOING AWAY? As of March 20, 2013 it is now officially Spring 2014. As I write this post it is snowing gently in Denver, cold flakes of snow taunting us after a week of up and down temperatures. Typical Colorado.
I’m a pretty hopeful person though and it’s a given that warm weather will slowly take hold and that flowers will bloom and trees will begin budding and Spring will finally be here.
I Can’t Wait for Spring!
This change in season (and the end of my No Shopping Challenge) has me thinking about transitioning my wardrobe into Spring and warmer weather months without spending a ton of money.
So I thought of 5 cheap ways to be fashionable this Spring while using your current wardrobe or by adding additional items thoughtfully and inexpensively.
Finger nail polish-The rise in nail art has given way to gorgeous nail polishes. If you don’t have the money to drastically change your wardrobe then look in the Sunday newspaper and find some coupons for finger nail polish. Or, if you’re in a big box store such as KMART or Target see if there are coupons in the makeup aisle. Try new colors that you feel would be fun and add an extra “pop” to your outfit . I purchased 6 polishes for $18 dollars-I basically rocked some coupon action. The colors are stunning.
Go to the Thrift Store-I’m convinced that somewhere in the corporate main office for most thrift stores there is a stylist whose job it is to make the store’s clothes salable for the season. By that what I mean is, they are clearly going through current magazines looking at the “it” colors and sending a merchandising template to their stores. I am continuously amazed at how “on trend” some store’s merchandise tends to be. In a couple of weeks I will be going to the thrift store on its 50% off day (every second Saturday at my Goodwill) and picking up some new clothes.
Repurpose Your Current Wardrobe-As you begin pulling out your Spring clothing from storage look at the colors and the fit of those pieces. If they aren’t too trendy they are workable! Then, look at some magazines and create new outfits with the clothes that you currently have. If you have a white shirt, colored jeans, or plain jeans and a neutral top-that’s a cute outfit waiting to happen. Pair it with a nice mani using your fabulous new fingernail polish and some saucy sunglasses (that you already had) and you’re set!
Accessorize-Accessories are a fashionable person’s best friend. If you have a plain outfit and then pair it with a fantastic accessory your outfit will “pop!” Look at your hair accessories, jewelry, and shoes and then take some fashion risks. I tend to love big earrings and bracelets…and fun shoes. My outfits tend to be a bit plain until I add a daring accessory and some attitude.
Change Your Hair–One of the most dramatic ways to change your look is to cut, color, or use accessories in your hair. If you have long hair maybe you cut it short. If you have short hair maybe you grow it out. You could also dye your hair. Use caution when dying your hair. You may want to go to a professional to make sure that you don’t damage your hair.
Embrace Spring and look at it as an opportunity to refresh your look without spending a ton of cash. I can’t wait to embrace a new look, wear new clothing materials, and take some fashion risks.

I now also used Thredup.com (affiliate link) as a way to shop for gently used clothing. If you’re looking for some cute pieces to add to your wardrobe check out Thredup.com and receive a $10 credit (while this promotion lasts) on your purchase.

I love playing with different polishes. They are a cheap, easy and fun way to change your look. I bought a bunch of Revlon polishes with coupons a while back. I think I paid $0.99 a bottle after coupons and CVS extra care bucks.

I can’t wait!! The next one I’m going to use is the white one. I’ve decided to stop getting mani-pedis unless on vacation so I have to do it myself.

I love changing my hair style, it’s just recently that I cut my long hair into a bob hair style and I also dyed it. And also I love changing my nail polish, I read that having a good nail polish would help you to look younger.

Having a nice manicure makes me feel so put together. I also seem to move my hands around a lot to show off the manicure 🙂 Was it intense changing your hair from long to short? Or very empowering?

One of my favorite ways to freshen up my wardrobe is with accessories, so good tip there. I find that you can find great costume/fashion jewelry on Ebay for really, really cheap. I have my nice jewellery, and then I have the cheap stuff that goes well with certain outfits and then of course belts, bags, etc.

I am thinking about learning how to make my own accessories. There are some amazing tutorials online. Right now I want a chunky, bright necklace! I have a few days before I can shop. I’m pricing things as we speak 🙂
