I am one of those people who still truly loves receiving an actual book for a gift. I love the feel of holding a book while I read it. The weight of the actual book, the smell of a bookstore when you can find one and the incredible feeling of peace that comes over me when I step into a bookstore.
In fact, I love reading so much that one of the reasons I decided to buy my home was because it had a built in bookcase in the living room with exposed brick. #Sold. I cannot remember a time when I didn’t have a library card and I shudder to think about what my life would be without books.
It would suck.
I have to admit that I had a ton of fun working on this list. I included books that I had read, books that I heard about and wanted to read, and books that I’ve never heard of that sound like potentially great reads. I decided to do a Christmas in July gift series because…winter is coming LOL! I couldn’t resist.
We are in the Dog Days of Summer and I am already working on my plans for Fall and Winter because I know that they are on their way. In fact, I think that I prepare early because my mom would always tell me the story of the Ant and the Grasshopper.
So, this month I’m sharing a series of posts with affordable gift ideas so that you can prepare early for the Holidays, use your savings apps like Ibotta and Ebates and not go over your budget.
Books do the following:
- Inspire
- Inform
- Engage
- Help people escape
- Frighten people
- Educate
- Allow people to become voyeurs
- Tap into creativity
And the list goes on. Have fun browsing through the list. Let me know if you’ve read on of the books already, are lusting after one of the books, or have read a review. Enjoy!
Bullsh$t Adult Coloring Book
Sometimes you just have to sit down and color.
A coloring book with adult language is even better LOL!
You Are a Badass
Best title ever. I can’t wait to read this book.
Sweet Bitter
I have no idea what this book is about…I just know that I want to read it!
The Five Love Languages
I’ve heard about this book from a number of my friends. As person who is (still!) wanting to be in a relationship I think I should read this.
Grit
There is a distinct lack of grit in 2016 America. I love any book that celebrates and examines this mindset.
Year of Yes
Shonda Rhimes is awesome. I’ve seen her discuss how 2015 was her year of “yes!”
She is an inspiration.
Between the World and Me
Given all of the conversation about race in America there is no way that I wold leave this book of of my list of must read books
Hamilton
I can’t WAIT to see this musical…in 2017 when it comes to Denver. In the meantime I would like to learn more about Alexander Hamilton.
Wild
Wild is the book that I read as I explored Australia after leaving my job of 10 years. I am convinced that everyone should read this book and do an epic solo backpacking trip….with mace.
Jane Eyre
Jane Eyre is one of my favorite books of all time. It’s the original romance novel. I even watch every movie and t.v. production based on the book.
When Breathe Becomes Air
This book wins for the best title. It also is based on a true story that I don’t want to share.
Read it.
Oh The Sh$t You Don’t Know
I’m still learning….
Wake Up America
About time a book like this one has been written. I can’t wait to check it out.
How to Eat in the Woods
One of my secret obsessions (not so secret now) is learning how to forage for food both in the city and in the mountains. I love being able to identify the different edible plants/fruits/vegetables that are out there. I will never starve. And, I discovered a pear tree on my block.
Cravings
I’m convinced that Chrissy and I would be best friends if we met in real life because we’re both pretty goofy, love our food, and are in love with John Legend. Ahem.
