How to Create Passive Income With Ebooks
I’ve noticed that the majority of people who could be publishing helpful ebooks for their community overthink to the point of inaction. Please don’t do this! Remember your ebook will most likely exist on the Amazon platform (depending on how you publish it) as well as other online platforms. Your book will be available to millions of people with a quick download.
Why are you waiting?
Build Your Email List
Create an ebook to drive readers to your opt-ins and build your list. If you are growing a personal brand online as a:
- Online Business Coach
- Influencer
- Educator
- Community creator
Writing a short ebook as a way to introduce who you are, what you do, or to solve a problem for your community is a great way to grow your email list. You probably already have a ton of helpful information that just needs to be put together in the form of a book. By providing this free gift to people who either follow you or are new to what you’re doing you’ve positioned yourself as a helpful person who has solved a problem for people in your community.
Don’t feel like solving problems?
Share your personal story. Again, people purchase goods and services from people that they know, like, and trust.
Affiliate Links!
Use affiliates links within your book (do NOT use Amazon Affiliate links in your book). Before using this strategy, triple-check the terms of service for your favorite affiliate programs. Depending on the type of book that you write, you may be able to share an affiliate link that is in alignment with the subject matter of your book.
Remember-you’re able to share clickable hyperlinks in digital media. People can click on the links that you share!
Amazon Affiliates
Share the Amazon Affiliate link to your book on your social media or during live streams. In order to access the Amazon Affiliate link you would need to publish your book directly on the Amazon Platform. I’ve done this with my “Epic Moving Guide to Colorado” book and it’s great because I’m able to share that book on my website(s). If someone decides not to purchase my book, but makes other purchases within 24 hours of the initial purchase-I get a percentage of that sale.
You do need to understand how to effectively affiliate market in order to take advantage of this course. But, once you understand the logic-it’s pretty easy to do. Please note: Amazon Affiliates pays 60 days from when you’ve earned the money.
Non-Fiction Writers!
Create a series of books discussing one specific topic in a related niche. Non-fiction books require a lot more marketing than fiction books. However, remember that books on Amazon can be SEO optimized as well as using a few other strategies to drive people to your book.
But, one of the strategies you can use is creating a series of books answering specific questions in your niche. Here are some examples of what I mean:
- Gluten Allergy Food Blogger-There is a ton of content you could create
- A mini guide to tasty gluten free products that can be ordered online
- A guide to gluten-free living in the South
- 10 tools That people with gluten allergies can use to make their lives easier
- Colorado Travel Blogger-Again a ton of content in this specific niche. Imagine that people are looking to visit Colorado from other states and countries.
- What You Need to Visit Colorado
- Small towns You Should Visit On Your Next Trip to Colorado
- Best Road Trips From Denver
Again, you’re creating a series of books that illustrate your authority on a very narrow area of focus.
Facebook Ad Lead Magnet
Use your books as a lead magnet via Facebook ads to grow your email list. Right now you’ve probably begun to notice a ton of Facebook ads connecting to a free webinar, book, or resource. There is a reason for that. These are great resources to share with cold traffic and grow your email list.
I have one friend who added 3,000 subscribers in 4 months by sharing a free tool via her Facebook ad.
Podcast Show Notes
Share your book in your podcast show notes. Podcasters incredibly well positioned to make money with their ebooks. Why? Well, they can share their book during every single episode.
As their show grows, more and more listeners will potentially connect with your book. Having a book that you share during each show (for free/via an affiliate link/or both) helps to confirm your role as an expert on whatever topic you’ve decided to cover. Be creative especially if your topic is a tricky one.
Market Your Books Like a Ninja
Run a special during different times of the year to grow your sales. Your topic may dictate when you should put your book on sale. It makes sense that everyone should put their books on sale during the Holiday Season from November until the end of December.
Here are some additional marketing/sales ideas based on book topic:
- Managing depression/health and wellness-Holiday season/October 11-National Depression Screening day
- Anything related to travel-Winter travel season/Summer travel season
- Education related content-Before school starts
You get the idea! I actually plan on writing several extra books to be published on Black Friday in order to capitalize on holiday sales. And, I also plan on discounting previously published books as well. My books are published on Amazon-I did that very intentionally-over 70% of shoppers during the 2017 shopping season shopped on Amazon. I want to make as easy as possible for people to connect with my books.
