I’ve just returned from a whirlwind trip literally all around the United States. I flew a big awkward circle from Denver to Orlando to Seattle and I’m still exhausted. What had me flying around the US like a crazy person? Podcast Movement and the Lola Retreat. For the first time since October 2017, I was attending an event out of my state. The events that I attended, I picked with a specific focus on professional and personal development. Attending these events got me thinking about the whole concept of investing in yourself, what that actually means, and how to invest in yourself without going broke.

Show Notes
- I asked the following question on Twitter the other day “What comes to mind when someone says that you should invest in yourself?”
- I have both positive and negative thoughts that come to mind and I wanted to spend some time talking about this.
- Let’s be clear-I have no interest in being in your pockets. I do, however, want you to have a well thought out system for choosing where and how you invest in yourself.
- The phrase that makes me CRAZY that you need to prepare yourself for “Invest in yourself…by buying my….”
- How to prepare for this phrase and make financially smart decisions.
- Assume that conversations with people who sell goods and services may lead to them pitching a good or product to you AND THEY SHOULD.
- Know your budget and stick with it. Most coaches/courses/etc. have multiple areas of entry for their goods and services. If they’ve set up their business well there should be an entry point that works for your budget.
- Do your research-Ask about other client’s experiences with that person’s services. Ask about their prices and begin putting money aside for them.
- Be action oriented-If you are going to pay money for something don’t buy it and run. Buy it and learn.
- There are a couple of areas where you can invest in yourself
- Self-care
- Mani-Pedis
- Therapy
- Vacations
- Education
- Classes and Courses
- Professional development
- Conferences or retreats
- Self-care
- Investing in yourself is necessary and can be a very positive experience when you do it in a well thought out way.
