This year is the year that I’ve finally decided to focus on losing the pesky 30 pounds that have attached themselves to me like a toddler needing its mom. That weight just hasn’t let go of me. And, instead of driving myself crazy about this, I’ve decided to take a slightly different approach to my weight loss journey this time around. This year here’s how you can lose weight without being mean to yourself.

How to Lose Weight
Without being mean to yourself. Yes, it’s possible. But, there are a couple of first steps that you need to take before getting started. Always connect with your doctor and have them do a full check-up. You may have a health related issue that is keeping you from losing weight. You never know until you get checked. Once you’ve sought out medical help then there additional steps that you can take to create a weight loss process without losing your mind.
- Find Community-It’s easier than ever to be a part of a weight loss community. You can check out different Influencers in the health and wellness space on your favorite social media app. Instagram and Youtube are my two favorites. I’m a huge fan of Black Weight Loss Success which is a community for Black Women losing weight. But, there are a ton of influencers out there, start looking for the person and community that fits you.
- Be Honest-Before you begin your journey spend some time journaling and reflecting on what’s motivating you to lose weight. Once you’re clear, then you’ll know what to watch out for in terms of emotional triggers.
- On Your Own Or Not? Decide whether or not you would like to exercise with other people or on your own. Don’t feel pressure to join a class if you don’t want to. For me, I find that I’m a lot more motivated when I attend dance and other fitness classes. This time of year is fantastic for me because there are a ridiculous number of free fitness classes offered in Denver.
Commit to the Process
And, be kind to yourself. Acknowledge that there will be moments when you ROCK your fitness goals. And then there will be days when you just Netflix, chill, and eat a donut. For me, I’ve decided to focus on how I manage stress-which usually triggers emotional eating and lazy days in bed.
In the past, whenever I’ve tried to lose weight I’ve approached weight loss with a military precision. It never worked.
This time around I’m doubling the amount of time I would like to take to lose the weight. I’m focusing on enjoying fun events with others and self-love.
Yep, I went there. I just want to make sure that my actions reflect a love of self.
Recently
A dear relative of mine just reported that they are in remission from cancer. This situation has been very upsetting (as you can imagine) and I’m feeling a lot of guilt about not taking care of my health in the way that I should.
And, I’m not twenty anymore. I can’t mess around with my health anymore.
My health journey is now a self-love journey and that’s changed everything.
Tools that I Use to Lose
Right now I wear a FitBit and I’m obsessed with it! I love the app as well and I have a lot of fun competing against my friends in the challenges.
I purchased the cute silver bangle and wear it daily! The rose gold bangle picture below may also find its way onto my arm LOL!
