Imagine waking up everyday already having made some money. Sometimes you’ve made a lot, other times a little bit, but each month that amount means a bill gets paid, groceries get purchased, or a European trip gets booked once we can travel again. This is the experience that I had as an online content creator working on building a brand and trying to figure out ways to assert my authority, build recurring revenue into my life as a creative, and creating resources that help other people. In episode 126 I talk about making $540 the first month I published my second book. It made a difference to me. That money was almost a mortgage payment, grocery money, or money that I could use for a trip. That excitement pushed me to create my first course “Make Money with Ebooks.” That course is now closed until the end of summer as I work on something new-The Make Money with Ebooks Academy.

Writing books during a pandemic really sucks. Seriously, it does. It’s hard to focus, there’s a lot of guilt about the quality of your books, and creativity is shot. For non-fiction books, there’s a double-edged sword. Imagine being the poor author who is publishing a book called “Time to Visit Denver” during a pandemic. That’s me, I’m that author. But, what has stayed the same, surprisingly, that every day I wake up with book sales and the ability to bring in recurring revenue in more than one way.
- Recently, though, I began reworking my Make Money with Ebooks Course. In the past 18 months that I’ve worked with authors I’d discovered some things.
- There are three types of online students.
- The student who enjoys taking a course and don’t need to chit chat with the course creator
- The student who needs ongoing support and connection
- The student who needs both
- There are three types of online students.
- With those learning styles in mind, I began to get to work. I started imagining a new way that I could work with authors that would light them up and lit me up too and was super affordable too.
- I started talking to authors who were stuck and I started noticing a couple of issues.
- Issue #1-People were busy and needed more time to focus on their books. Basically, they were looking for accountability. A person or space who was just as excited and invested in their writing dream.
- Issue #2-The need for more time to cover different concepts that would affect their book journey. Such as:
- How to build up a consistent writing habit
- How to build an email list
- How to market a self-published book?
- Issue #3–Perfectionism-There are way more perfectionists out there than I could ever imagine. At least when it comes to writing their first book.
- If you haven’t published your first book because you remember someone who shot down your idea-listen on
- If you haven’t published your first book because of Imposter Syndrome-Continue listening
- If you haven’t published your first book because the technical aspects are overwhelming-I’ve got you
- My Make Money with Ebooks Academy has been created with that in mind. So, what is the Make Money with Ebooks Academy?
- An ongoing subscription community for authors who would like to be self-published
- I’m currently looking for a limited number of founding members of the Academy who can help me create the supportive community that I’m dreaming of and working on.
