A couple of months ago, I recorded a post about reworking your 2020 Vision Board. I recorded that episode about a month into the pandemic and I think that all of us, even the most rational, were still in denial and it wasn’t a river. I had so many thoughts about how my year was going to be a complete wash, or that I had to rethink my goals and not dream the dreams that I had for myself. Now I realize that I was still in shock. The reality of what has happened since the pandemic hit has been incredibly surprising to me and I thought that the first week of July would be a great time to talk about revisiting your 2020 goals. Right now I’m reworking my goals list because it’s time. Because guess what-you have 6 months to make your 2020 goals happen. Let’s talk.

Show Notes
- At the time that I’m recording this episode I’m dealing with an extreme level of exhaustion from dealing with the pandemic. In fact, I joke that I have pandemic brain, similar to mom brain. Where there’s so much to keep track of that I can’t keep track of it all.
- There’s so much to manage with this situation but I want to talk about the part of this moment that we can manage. Nurturing our dreams.
- The year isn’t over yet and that something that I want you to consider. So, let’s break down the 5 main goals that people usually are working towards and reboot your goals for this year.
The Pursuit of Happiness
Are you happy? What makes you happy?
- In a recent poll, Americans said that they were the unhappiest that they’ve been in 50 years. Many of American listeners in particular are having a really rough year.
- Your happiness is a non-negotiable. No one will care about your happiness as much as you do.
- Nurture your happiness daily.
- For me that looks like going seeing my mom, talking to my grandma and uncle, hiking, enjoying a cup of coffee on a patio, socially distant hangouts with friends, and ruthlessly prioritizing my happiness because no one else will.
- Live your happiness don’t tell people your plan for it.
Health and Wellness
I’m still out of shape and it still bothers me and I didn’t really do anything about it for the past year.
- I’m so out of shape right now that it’s almost painful to think about. While I didn’t gain the COVID 19, I did gain about 5 more pounds from eating my feelings.
- Now is not the time to fall physically apart and my goal is to not take my health for granted.
- The irony is that this year one of my goals was to lose weight. Instead of feeling badly about this I’m going to let tings go and just start again with an easy to achieve goal.
- Walk more. I wear a FitBit and I’ve lost weight before by setting super simple and easy to achieve goals. Now, I plan on walking a minimum of 12,000 steps a day. I can walk inside my house, at the park or in the mountains.
- Drink more water-It’s super hot and humid for Colorado so I’m finding it easy to do this.
- Mindset-I’m ruthlessly cutting anything that negatively affects my mindset. Trust me it gets easier over time.
Money
Right now I’m at the tail end of paying off my unsecured debt. I actually plan on recording an episode talking about stalling out on my last $5500 in unsecured debt. It looks like everything will be done by the end of August. What are your money goals? For many people
- Money goals can range from earning more, paying off debt, investing, or saving. In my view, the only financial goal that people should focus on is earning more. Why? Because you create a bigger shovel to pay off debt, invest, etc.
Love
- I’m totally up for dating right now. Dating during the Rona is, well, weird. But, I will figure it out. I think the key is to set the intention and send it out into the Universe. I’ve been hit on more in the past 4 months than I have in years. That’s even at a weight that I dislike and feeling out of sorts. In fact, yesterday a lovely gentleman told me that I was beautiful! I’ll take it.
Travel
So, it pains me to say this but it’s highly likely that US based tourists may find the world will be a little smaller for awhile. Other countries will use reciprocity to keep out US based travelers or they will just point to our COVID infection rates as a reason to keep us from stepping foot on their land. In fact, we’re currently banned from making EU based travel. While this won’t last forever, I do think these measures will be in place for at least a year. Instead of feeling said about this, I’ve decided to flip this situation and rethink how I’m thinking about it.
- I’ve begun thinking about the type of travel I would like to do when we’re able to travel overseas. I’m working through my budget, the type of experience I would like to have and the duration of time I would like be gone. So far right now it looks like I’m going to do the following:
- Do a thru-hike via the Colorado trail a 6-week backpacking trip across the Colorado Rockies
- 3-6 months abroad. Because my relatives are getting older, I’m uncomfortable with staying away too long and I want to spend time with my beautiful relatives.
I want to leave you with this last thought. Don’t let the craziness of 2020 kill your dreams. Simplify the process, give yourself a realistic timeframe to get things done keeping in mind that we’re in a pandemic. And, be bold about what you want for yourself. I’m really focusing on what can happen in one year and breaking down my goals into much smaller bites than before. That’s how I paid off $60,000 in debt. Right now I’m 8 weeks from having this done and I’m so damn tired. But, every step forward is still a step forward. Good luck!
