Currently, I’ve rebooted my fitness focus. Why? Well, I am just over dealing with the extra 25 lbs, my knees can’t take it, and I’m vain. One of the issues that I’ve had is that I get bored really quickly with my workouts. Unfortunately, I am not the person who enjoys doing the same workout every day. In fact, I prefer taking dance classes but that gets a bit expensive. As a result, I’ve spent some time researching all of the different workouts that are out there. In my research, I discovered the Alphabet Fitness Challenge and decided to create my own for the personal finance set.
For classes, I use Class Pass. It’s a great way for me to try out different fitness classes around my city. Sign up with my affiliate link and get $30 towards your first month as a Base or Core subscriber.
The Alphabet Fitness Challenge
Is pretty straightforward. Each letter of the alphabet is assigned an exercise. You can approach this a couple of different ways, you can:
- Go through the entire alphabet
- Spell out words such as: savings, debt-free, cash, and the list goes on.
- Spell out sentences or mantras: “I will be debt free next year!”
Whatever you need to do to get a nice workout in. Disclaimer: I am not a fitness professional. Doing exercise may injure you. Speak to your doctor before doing any exercise. Review the list and check out the different exercises (except for kegles LOL-Google that) on YouTube.
The Alphabet Fitness Challenge
For the personal finance set!
- A=Arm circles
- B=Burpees or Bicycle
- C=Crunches
- D=Dips (arm dips)
- E=Elbow plank or the Electric slide
- F=Flutter kicks
- G=50 arm circles
- H=Hop in place or go for a Hike
- I=Inchworm. Seriously. Channel your inner invertebrate.
- J=Jumping jacks/Jog in place or go for a jog
- K=Kegles. Hey, work everything.
- L=Lunges (watch your knees) Look online to make sure you’re using the correct form.
- M=Get your mind right. Meditate for at least 5 minutes.
- N=Nature calls. Go for a walk around the block.
- O=Obstacle course. Create an obstacle course in your home and work it.
- P=Planks or push ups. Your choice.
- Q=Work those quads. Do some squats.
- R=Do some rapid movements such as running stationary sprints for 1 minute
- S=Side plank or Squats
- T=Thighs! Do 50 squats. Check online for the correct positioning.
- U=3 minute wall sit
- V=The “V” yoga pose. Sit on the floor and lift your legs up and your arms so that your body is in some semblance of the letter “V”
- W=Weights. Use weights that you have at home to do arm curls for 2-5 minutes. You can also use canned beans as weights as well.
- X=Scissors-work those legs and thighs! Lay on the ground and move your legs up and down and back and forth (like you’re using scissors)
- Y=Yoga is back! Do your favorite yoga move. Downward and Upward facing dog would work well at this point.
- Z=Rock your favorite Zumba move. Don’t have one? Dance in place to your favorite song.
Take a Break
I had a lot of fun thinking up all of the different exercises for this challenge. Here is a list of different words, mantras, etc. that you can use to get you through a 10, 15, 20, 25, or 30-minute workout. For each letter do the corresponding exercise.
For Example: if you’re used the word “Free”
- F=Flutter kicks
- R=Rapid movements
- E=Elbow plank (as long as possible)
- E=Electric slide
More ideas:
- “If you will live like no one else, later you can live like no one else” Dave Ramsey
- “Never start a business just to ‘make money’. Start a business to make a difference.” Marie Forleo
- Debt-free is sexy!
- F.I.R.E.-Financial Independence Retire Early!
- Cash only
- Don’t let anyone ever dull your SPARKLE!
- Do What Makes You Happy
- You’ve got this!
- Mortgage Paid Off
- Student Loans Paid Off!
The Alphabet Fitness Challenge is a fun way to keep your mind engaged as you get fit.
