Oh, hello there! I bet you thought I forgot about you today. Nope, my $80 charger for my laptop died last night at the beginning of what would have been an epic evening of work. Did I mention that my laptop was dead too? This is the second time that this has happened this year and nothing would charge my computer except for the charger that is dedicated to MacBook Air. This morning had me walking to the nearest Apple Store and listening to a Pat Flynn podcast in order to get my power cord exchanged. Happily, no issues. I will, however, be picking up an extra cord…just in case. Freaking expensive computer…but I digress.
I’m Working Harder in 2016
A couple of weeks ago I shared a post where I expressed concern that I wasn’t working as hard as I probably needed to in order to achieve the level of success I’m hoping to achieve in my: business and personal life. I’m also concerned about saving enough for retirement which translates to an earning issue. Click here to see how I’m saving as a freelancer.
Commenters were very kind and said that I was being hard on myself-and they were right. But, I find that I’m my best and worst critic. I’ve achieved some amazing feats when I focused my mind on whatever goal I was hoping to rock.
No Winding Down Before the New Year
Normally, I would be winding as the year winds down in order to get ready for 2016. You know, wrapping up projects, occasionally going to a holiday party, and having the random glass of wine while watching Love Actually and wondering when love will actually come my way.
Not this year.
I’m spending a lot of time thinking about the type of energy that I want to send into the New Year. Of course I want to feel refreshed and ready to roll-but I work from home now! I’m always feeling pretty refreshed since I kicked my long commute to the curb.
As I go into the beginning of my SECOND YEAR OF WORKING FOR MYSELF (SAY WHAT?!) I realize this thing is for real. I love it. The one thing I don’t love is mediocre results.
Mediocre Is
- Not pitching enough focused and targeted pitches to potential new clients.
- Excuses-clients don’t care about excuses.
- Getting distracted by things that keep me from my “big” goal
There’s more to the list but that’s enough for now-you get the picture. So, I’m amping things up. Specifically, I’m working hard to create systems that help me stay focused and make the process of meeting my goals manageable and realistic.
For Example:
- Blog Editorial Calendar-I have a great editorial calendar system. I just need to sit down one day and get ahead on posts like before. I used to be a week or so ahead on my blog. Now I would like to always be two weeks ahead on my blog. I actually have posts scheduled through February. Really. I may change things around, but, in the event that something happens to my laptop or charger my posts will go “live.”
- Pitch Process-I need to get back into actively pitching for new projects on a daily basis. I have a minimum number of pitches that I think should go out a day (am thinking 3) that are well-crafted and likely to convert.
- Miracle Mornings-I noticed that this practice is much better when done at the same time every day. I am refining the time and getting back into the practice.
I want not only the Universe to believe my intentions, but I need to believe my intentions to. Being successful at what I’m trying to do is not Rocket Science.
It’s hard work.
I have a lot of big plans for 2016 and I truly, truly believe that I can make them happen. I used to work like a crazy person for other people. I think I had to get over my amazement that I’m eating after a year of working for myself. I can do this. I don’t think I truly believed I could be self-employed. It almost felt like…a game..It’s not a game anymore and I can ROCK THIS.
I just need to focus and implement. Will let you know how it goes!

I like your attitude, Michelle! The holidays aren’t the time to get lazy! It’s a time to set intentions and pretty to hit the New Year hard. It’s sounds like you’re ready. And I have no doubt you’ll meet your goals.

This is a switch for me though LOL! But, I’m now working for myself so I have to make things happen. I want better results for 2016.

I guess I have to say good luck on your 2016. I know you can achieve your goals, with that kind of positive attitude, Michelle. By the way, a piece of advise, I think you need to get a spare charger this time. 😀

Haha Jayson! You’re totally right though. I can’t believe I had to get 2 chargers this year. Am hoping I can get a deal on Amazon.

I need to rebuild my finances so it’s a rebuilding year for me. I just have to have some patience doing it. 🙂

I think that it won’t be that difficult to do. Just create a plan and implement it-you’ll rock that goal!!

I’m working really hard right now too. I want to finish off the year on a good note and that means working hard between now and then.

I’m planning to work harder so that 2016 is a lot different.
