At the end of 2017, I decided to take the year off from travel and really focus on growing my online business. For the next year I created courses, a coaching program, and wrote books. But, there’s more to the story. For the past couple of years I’d wanted to write books and finally I decided to give it a try. I’m glad that I did and hopefully this post will encourage you to write your first ebook too.

I Love Blogging!
It has changed the trajectory of my life. Sharing my personal finance story and now my entrepreneurship story has been an empowering experience. Because of blogging, I improved my writing skills to the point where I get paid to write for other people and I get paid for books that I’ve written. Write Your First Ebook
The first time I wrote a book I was in 2nd grade. In fact, my mom still has the book “The Biggest Snail in the World.” It’s adorable and has a fabric cover. I still love that book. It is tangible evidence of my love of writing. Here’s the thing, it’s now the 21st century and a lot of things have changed.
People are now able to walk around with a virtual library in their hands. With the creation of Kindles, Nooks, and other e-readers, your book can be in the hands of your audience in seconds.
Why are you waiting to write your first ebook? Now, before you ask me-Michelle what about paperbacks? What about them? I freaking love them. But, I’m writing this post for the following readers:
- Online Influencers-People in the process of building their online presence. Basically, online influencers. And, there are a lot of well-established online influencers who don’t have books written who should!
- Experts! Individuals who would like to share their expertise and would love to write a book, but aren’t sure if they should.
- Tired of Answering Questions-A person who wants to begin sharing a skill, creative story, or longer answer to a question that they keep getting asked by their community.
Now is the time to stop thinking and start typing!
7 Reasons Why You Need to Write an Ebook
Of course there are more reasons, but we’re going to start with my 7 most compelling reasons why you should begin writing your first ebook and stop waiting.
- Ebooks are fast to produce-I’ve written both fiction and non-fiction books and one of the best things about writing them is that they are pretty easy to write if you have a decent idea of what your trying to communicate. You just need access to at least a Chromebook, or a low cost laptop to get started.
- Make Money-You have the potential to make money from day one. Note: there is the potential to begin making money from the moment that your book goes “live” on whichever platform you decide to publish on. You just have to focus on and create a marketing plan and work that plan to get your book in front of the people who will buy your book and grow your brand.
- Great way to build brand authority-I have a number of friends who were able to grow their brands by publishing ebooks. Why is this an easy way to build brand authority? Because most people won’t do the extra work to write a book. With their new written collateral, these authors then were able to leverage their expertise on different shows when appropriate. Or, they were able to pitch speaking gigs, t.v. segments, or connect with major online influencers to grow their brands.
Reasons Continued
- Ebooks are a great passive income stream-No lies told, I love passive income, but ebooks may be my absolute favorite way to build passive income. I once read that authors, especially ebook writers, make money from their entire portfolio of work and I would say that I’ve observed that to be the case. Each time I publish a fiction book there is an uptick in my earnings for that portfolio of writing. My non-fiction book “The Epic Guide to Moving to Colorado” seems to sell more going into the winter season (searching for skiing) or going into the summer when people are thinking about moving in general. My romance books published under the pen name Autumn Stone are making me money every day! Make sure to check them out if you’re into romance.
- Easy to Update-If there is a problem with the book-it’s quick to fix. I learned this personally when I accidentally uploaded a draft copy of one of my books and got a bad review. Fortunately, the reviewer mentioned what the issues were and I was able to address it quickly because I realized what happened. Then, I added a note at the top of the book description saying that the problem has been fixed. Books sales for that book have not been affected at all. Also, you can create new editions to that book and upload them as things change).
- Easy to build a portfolio of writing-If you’re looking to build a fiction or non-fiction portfolio of work, it’s very easy to build that up with ebooks. In fact, I plan on writing short books about specific topics related to my online focus and the brand that I’m building.
- Repurpose-If you’re already creating digital content you can create an ebook pretty quickly and repurpose content that you’ve previously created into an easy to read resource.
Convinced…
So, I’ve convinced you that it’s now time to begin writing ebooks and getting your expertise out to the world and grow your brand.
But, if you’re…
- Not excited about researching how to write, publish, and market your first ebook.
- Figuring out all of the technical details-because you’re tired of going on YouTube University.
- Needing support, encouragement, and community.
Fortunately, I have a tool for you!
