If you’re reading a personal finance blog you are probably aware (on some level) of how you look on paper. Some of you are in relationships: dating, or married. Some of you are single. This post is specifically geared towards those of you who are dating casually and for those of you who are single. Don’t be sad about being single. You have been given an opportunity to get your metaphorical house in order, hopefully attracting some other individual who is as together as you will be once you get everything paid off and organized. I find myself in the no dating cohort. At first it was kind of a bummer. Like most people, I would like to be in a loving relationship with a fabulous man who has their stuff together. But, if that is my expectation of my potential future person. Shouldn’t they have a similar expectation of me? If I started dating someone right now would I feel comfortable being open about my finances? The answer is “NO!” If you’re dating someone right now and it’s getting a lot more serious and your finances are a mess. You better start thinking really seriously about getting your stuff together. Because if you don’t it sooner than you would like, your money stuff will be out in the open.
