Today I participated in the Denver Challenge Scavenger Hunt. It was a ton of fun (with the exception of the extreme heat) I paid $20 instead of $50 for the entrance fee. As I embrace a much more frugal lifestyle there are some areas of spending that are problematic. Fun is an issue. I refuse to give up fun activities. Meeting my finance goals are important to me and I’m willing to sacrifice quite a bit. But, what is too much? There are some people who make a point of giving up all paid activities. Such as concerts, movies, restaurants, etc. There is no way I will be able to continue with the process if it feels like punishment. So, I have turned towards Living Social and Groupon. The key here is to make an honest assessment of what events/activities/restaurants you will actually do and actually be a patron of. One problem also is shopping enthusiasm. Sometimes there is a rush associated with getting a good deal be careful with that. I have a number of coupons that I didn’t redeem quickly enough and lost the promotional value. Be aware that you can still redeem the original amount that you paid! Don’t forget that. It’s not lost money. Some examples of Groupons that I will be redeeming into the fall:
1.) I paid for 2 movie passes and they gave us an additional 2 passes that have no expiration date
2.) I bought another set of movie passes that will be used in Boulder-again no expiration date
3.) Another Mystery Scavenger Hunt during the middle of July
4.) 1/2 off of entrance into a Russian Spa and Bathhouse. Will use this in the Fall when it cools off. Instead of $16 I paid $8 and got a guest pass as well. The pass is for a day of steam rooms and hot tubs. You can also pay $8 for a soap scrub, $10 for a salt scrub, or $30 for a massage. This will be a fantastic day of relaxation. There is also a small restaurant.
5.) Grocery coupons!!
You get the idea. I have very clear ideas of the vendors that would be worth buying these deals from
