This summer is set to see our swimwear move away from the sportswear to become the ultimate fashion accessory. From tribal prints to 1940’s inspired beauties, this year is all about having fun. Whether you will be lounging by the pool or surfing in Hawaii, there are certain swimsuits and bikinis that are not to be missed. Style them with your accessories and they can even take you from day to night – perfect right? Here are the key pieces of summer swimwear for women in 2013:
Tribal Days
Tribal prints are back for the third year running. Whether you are a fan of aztec prints of you love classic African patterns, then the good news is that they are all back. The best bit? They are back in a huge variety of style that will suit every shape. This swimsuit is the perfect example of this. It is stylish, the tribal print is bold and would look great with wedges, but the best bit is the hidden tummy control panel. Many women get worried about wearing a bikini and this is the perfect way to look glamorous on the beach as well as feeling confident.
If you are comfortable with your stomach but you have a small bust, then this is the bikini for you. Not only will it accentuate your curves, but it will also keep you comfortable which is the best combination. Perfect as it is on the beach, throw over a kaftan with wedge heels and plenty of bangles and you will have the ultimate beach to bar look.
A Vintage Summer
Vintage and retro swimwear has been a huge trend for the past two seasons. Maybe it’s the influence of Katy Perry’s style or it is simply because it is so much fun. Either way, it is the perfect trend for those of us who enjoy celebrating the sun. There are main styles to choose from with classic elements to look out for: small skirting, spots, stripes and rouched bralettes.
This is a great example of a fun retro swimwear from Littlewoods and is certainly not for the faint of heart. The ditsy polka dots and the blue and white contrast are perfect as great starting bikinis. This is a shapewear set and has a slightly rouched panel in tummy area to make your silhouette look flawless and although it is strapless, it really will hold you in place. Teamed with white flip flops and an oversized sun hat and all you will need is a good book.
If you love this trend, but you are looking for something more modest and unique, then why not consider a swim dress? I know that sounds odd but they are great for all shapes and sizes. This is a great example, in a similar vein to the last bikini, and this will quite literally take you from the pool to the bar without having to take extra clothing with you. It will slim your hips and tummy, hiding any problem areas you may have, whilst looking feminine and flirty = it’s simply beautiful. I would always advise a pair of ballet flats at the poolside, they are comfortable and won’t leave you with strappy marks on your feet, and don’t forget to wear some huge sun glasses with this dress!
***Btw, if I were shopping this year I would buy the 40’s inspired bikini! Personal posts will return on Monday with a two part series on my experience in London***
