On Conferences…
You might find this shocking but 2013 is more than 1/2 over. We are easing into the eight month of the year and are starting to see glimmers of Back to School, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas items in the stores.
It’s time to start planning for next year’s conferences. Really. Think about it, to really prepare for any trip, you need about 6 months to save, to purchase tickets and prepare. I am currently looking at not only my personal conferences but conferences for work. Typically my work conferences are paid for by my work. But, there is now the possibility that I will have to pay for one due to a long story that has nothing to do with me. Oh well!
So far this year I have gone to one conference for my job. It was in St. Louis and was a fantastic experience. Well coordinated conferences are valuable to the attendee because it allows attendees to network, to learn new information about their field, and to take a breather from the daily grind.
Conferences that I’m looking at for 2014:
- FinCon14 of course!
- AltSummit 2014-most likely the one in Salt Lake City. This works well for me because it is one state away from Colorado
- WDS 2014-I read so many positive comments that now I’m sold. I also like the name “World Domination Summit.” It appeals to the American in me. LOL.
I am hoping that the conferences will begin posting their dates and locations soon so that I can start planning my budget.
I encourage everyone to attend one conference that is attached to their passion-in addition to at least one conference that is connected to your work.
Have you gone to any conferences this year? For work? For your passion? Was it worth it? What tips do you have to hep facilitate a positive long-term experience?

I haven’t been to any conferences in ages so I’m really looking forward to fincon13!

For the longest time I wasn’t able to go to regional conferences due to internal….anywho, now I am able to go and I love it! However, after attending FinCon12 I realized that it’s really important to grow passion and business ideas outside of your regular worklife.

You will really love FinCon! It’s a wonderful opportunity to meet and connect with people who are doing what you’re doing. It really made a huge difference connecting with people who are genuinely supportive, kind, and a lot of fun to party with!

OMG the City Museum is one of my favorite places on earth. Did you get to go up into the arch? It’s such a cool view, but not for claustrophobes. I keep waiting for one of these conferences to come to me in Pittsburgh; maybe waiting for a while…. lol

I didn’t go up the arch as I am a little freaked out by the idea of being inside it! The City Museum was such a cool surprise and I can’t believe I’d never heard of it before. When I’m at FinCon I will go again…but wear jeans, not white pants so that I can go down the slides.

We’re headed to Blogher this year! You should add that to the list. The Alt Summit is on my wishlist too, but the tickets are so hard to get.

I need to check this one out! Thanks for the heads up. I didn’t realized the AltSummit tickets were hard to get. That’s good to know.
