About a month ago I wrote a post about my desire to lose some weight. In the past 8 years I have done what is considered normal for most American workers. I’ve gained between 3-4 pounds a year for the past 8 years. This slow gain equals basically 25 pounds over my ideal weight.
You have to understand that I am actually quite active. I ride my bike, walk, and go hiking during lunch. The problem is that I don’t work out to lose weight. As a result of this I have been incredibly frustrated with the fact I’ve gained the weight and the I haven’t been able to lose it.
Things have to change. I hate this extra weight. It represents all of the disappointments, frustrations, lack of momentum, and emotional eating that I did during the rough years. So, I am doing a 1/2 marathon in Miami!!
I have actually begun training in earnest and I love it. Let’s be clear, I really don’t love running but I had forgotten how much I loved the endorphin rush that being physically active brings. By the way, I haven’t lost any weight-and that’s ok. But, I am noticing that my endurance level has gone up and that I am looking forward to my workouts.
I’m eating Vegan Before Six and I’m feeling a lot more energetic. To be honest, I prefer to exercise during the cooler months. I don’t feel like I’m going to spontaneously combust in the heat.
Tonya and I have launched a Core Fitness Challenge at It Started with Lip Gloss for the month of October. Take 5 minutes of your day to focus on strengthening your core muscles. Have fun!
I don’t want to be that muscular…

I enjoy running but I find when you get serious about it it’s actually harder for me to lose any weight because it makes me so much hungrier! When losing weight, the general rule of thumb is it’s 20% exercise, 80% food. This happens to be true for me since I work out every day but I never lose any weight. 🙂 But I don’t gain so I guess breaking even isn’t too bad. Are you going to do some of the runs at fincon? I think I plan on doing the Sunday one.

My previous M.O. was to only run when being chased. I am still getting used to all of the jiggling from my extra padding. I really want to run a competitive 1/2 marathon so I’m just going to suck it up and get it done. I am getting a bit addicted to the endorphin rush.

This is fantastic. I have just started training with a friend who does programs etc. I am over my ideal weight, and while I too don’t want to be that muscular, I do want a lot more tone in my body. Good luck with it!

I finally got sick of not feeling good about my physical fitness. I am feed up with not looking my best so I’m going to suck it up and deal.

Good for you for signing up to do a 1/2 marathon! Especially in Miami! That should be some nice scenery. I have read about running halves and full marathons in cool places such as Vegas and Disneyworld. Maybe that would change my mind about running because I’d tell myself I’ll only have to run a few hours and then the rest of the time I’m on vacation!!

So far, I don’t necessarily love running. How ever I do love that I’m starting to build up endurance. I love that I’ve set a goal and I plan on achieving it. And…I LOVE MIAMI!!

Lisa, I used to be super obsessed with my core. I had a six pack. Now, I have a muffin top. But, once you get obsessed with it core workouts become a lot of fun!
