Some random thoughts…
I am resisting the urge to place my hands on my ears and tune everything out. I’m sick of the fighting, shouting, the guns, the phones, the loud voices, and disturbingly unwashed people. I say this with love and a little sarcasm. America-you crazy! Americans just might, just might be a little nuts…and the truth is I think we like it. I think we like the crazy. I think we like the stress, the jockeying for position, and having gorgeous white, even teeth. Even though I’ve written a number of posts that express my frustration with the current state of affairs I understand that this moment is just a bump in the road.
I have a number of friends who are from foreign countries who have moved back home. They left for a number of different reasons: dissatisfaction, loneliness, cost, cultural differences, and the list goes on. At the heart of it though, America just wasn’t their home. But, it is mine. And, I love this crazy, nutty, somewhat dangerous place. When you leave one place for another sometimes you see everything through rose-colored glasses. The roads here aren’t paved with gold, we still have racism, sexism, and lot’s of other isms. We’re not perfect. We’re human with feet of clay.
But I have to admit, I’m sick of the shouting and the anger. But, in a country with this many people we’re going to fight. We’re going to come together and we’re going to love. I’m looking forward to the time when cooler heads prevail. Let’s hope it’s soon.

I love this crazy country, but there are so many changes I would make if I could. On the other hand, every time I think about America’s rough edges, I remind myself how lucky we are to live in a first world country where we have so many rights. Problems and all, I feel incredibly blessed to live here :).

America loves riding the crazy train! But, hey, apparently that’s how we like it. Like you there are a ton of things I would change. For example: all kids would have to wear uniforms for school, we would allocate more for education, I would include a growing food component to the Food Stamp Program. I would grow for so that recipients have fresh food to eat. I would require all high school students to travel abroad for at least 3-4 weeks. Senior year. I would make politicians buy their own damn office supplies. I would introduce paid maternity leave depending on longevity at the job. It doesn’t matter I still love my crazy America.
