It is the day before Thanksgiving, the weather is nice and we are crossing our fingers for more snow. I am in the middle of a Thank You Card Challenge and it is amazing how blessed and fortunate I am to have so many wonderful people in my life. So, in this post I am going to write about what I am thankful for.
Here is my list:
- My health-Even though I have a janky knee, I am pretty healthy. I am trying to lose weight and I am trying to commit to that 100% I’m intimidated by the process but I don’t want to be a statistic.
- My mom-I love my mom. I’m not going to lie sometimes I just don’t understand the way she thinks. Sometimes she makes me crazy in the way that moms do. But, my mom has always, always, always been in my corner. My parents divorced when I was seven and she has always been the constant in my life. She does not get the whole blogging thing but still supports me in whatever I want to do. She believes in me 150%
- My extended family-I love my family. We don’t see each other enough but when I get to see them it’s great! They are blunt, funny, loud, loving, and hard working. Some of family has done quite well, others not so well. But, we still try to encourage and support one another.
- My job-I am ready to transition to another phase in my work life. Regardless of that I am very grateful for the job that I have now and will continue to give it 125% until it’s time for me to leave.
- My bike-it functions as my car! I don’t have a car. Luckily, I love riding my bike and live in a town where lots of people use their bike as one of their main sources of transportation.
- My ECO Pass. I get this pass through work and I don’t have to pay for transportation because of it. I am able to travel through out the cities of Denver and Boulder because of it.
- My friends-They have been there during the down times. Sadly, I have had a long and difficult road. During this long and difficult road I lost friends along the way. The ones who are still standing by me are some of the most patient, kind, and loving people I know. Just like for my family-I would walk through fire for them. I can’t say it enough-I am so grateful to have these amazing people in my life.
- My blogger peeps-You have no idea how your continued support, ideas, and being in my corner has meant to me. You have helped me find myself after being in the black hole of debt, stress, bad decisions, and too much chocolate. To be a part of a community that just wants me to be successful is an amazing thing to experience.
- My home-I purchased a 495 square foot condo in 2007. I love my home. It has sheltered me during the storm of life, given me stability, and increased my bottom line. Because of this purchase I will purchase other properties and use the lessons I’ve learned living in my tiny property and apply them to building wealth.
- My Education-Damn it was expensive! I have been in school since I was 2 1/2 years old. That is a lot of studying. I’ve studied: Political Science, Public Administration, French, and Spanish. Amazingly enough I’ve used almost all of that education in one form or another. I will be accelerating my debt repayment process next year after paying off my credit card debts. I will be glad to see the back of Sallie Mae and even though I wish I’d financed it differently I am very happy with the education that I received and continue to pursue.
- My Travels!! I love to travel. I have had the good fortune to travel around the world and I will continue to pursue additional trips abroad. I especially love traveling using cash so that the thing that lasts is my happy feeling/memory. Not long-term debt and interest.
- The Random Kindness of Strangers- I have been the recipient of a number of kind gestures from strangers. On Sunday I was given free entrance into my gym because my membership ran out unbeknown to me. I get free coffee all the time, people share shopping tips, and have given me directions when I’ve been lost. I have been housed in homes of strangers as I traveled the world with Up With People. Over 65 families hosted myself and others in an effort to connect to one another despite our supposed differences. They fed me, drove me around, and even gave me money-like they would for their own children. The substitute teacher in high school who had retired early from a career in engineering and was actively recruiting kids to go to his alma mater. I went to an amazing university in the north east and received tons of scholarships and grants because of him. All of the people who granted me scholarships and grants through out my life for: camp, gymnastics, dance, and the free clothes that my mom received from a church in Boulder. I was the best dressed kid in my class because of the kindness of strangers.
I have a lot to be grateful for and I am working hard to remember my blessings. When things aren’t going the way that you want them to, it’s very easy to focus on what’s going badly. I’m really trying to focus on what’s going right. In retrospect I am very blessed and I need to remember that.
What are you grateful for? Are you doing a gratitude project?
Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
