This summer I was making some good progress towards debt repayment. I had paid off two cards and was well into changing some negative habits. I had begun a year long No Shopping Challenge, was shopping once every week to two weeks, wrote down my expenses and basically was feeling pretty cocky about everything. Then, August happened. I seemed to lose my drive during the Dog Days of Summer. I just lost my focus. I then preceded to go on three trips: one to New York City with mom, St. Louis for Fin Con, and Bozeman, Montana. Happily, two of those three trips were conferences. Going to the conferences helped me to connect with my sense of purpose again. I rediscovered my “why” I am blogging.
So, I would like to propose something radical. Instead of a No Shopping Challenge for Black Friday, I would like to propose that everyone pay off one debt on Black Friday. I’m not saying don’t go shopping. I am saying that we should all commit to paying off at least one bill with the intention of not running up the bill again. Again, you can still go shopping on Black Friday (only 5 weeks away!)
I plan on paying off another one of my credit cards. And I plan on paying it off at 12:00 a.m on Black Friday. There is a certain poetry to that. Again, I am not anti-Black Friday shopping, I am pro taking care of my sh$t! I love winter because I can’t help but win at that time of year. It’s almost as if the stars align to make me successful.
So, I would like to challenge you to pay off 1 bill…just one longstanding bill on Black Friday. Will write another post about this in a couple of weeks.
Have a great Friday! I’m off to Yellowstone National Park.

“I am not anti-Black Friday shopping, I am pro taking care of my sh$t!” I love that! 🙂 I don’t have any debt, and don’t really shop for anyone for Xmas, so I’m pretty good to go there, so I need my own version of this challenge. Can you think of one?

Hmm, am still thinking about this. How about adding a certain amount to your travel fund? Iceland is super expensive!
