Inspire
I wanted to do something a little different and send some shout outs to people who have knowingly or unknowingly inspired me in some sort of way. Some of the people on this list know this and I’ve been fortunate enough to meet several of them. I hope you’re reading their blogs and if you aren’t-start now! So, here are 5 bloggers that have had a profound affect on how I view money, what I’m capable of, the value of hard work, creativity, and focus.
1.) Paula Pant from Afford Anything-Don’t laugh, but I’m convinced that I am awkward around Paula every time that I meet her. The thing is, she is basically a guru to me. Like Mr. Money Mustache (who I’ve also met and also am a little awkward around). When I grow up I want to be like Paula! There is something about being “introduced” to people virtually and then meeting them in real life and knowing how to manage those interactions while being yourself. For example, if I met Channing Tatum I feel I might want to latch on to him like a leech-but I won’t because I don’t do things like that…do I? If you’re not reading Paula’s blog-do. It will help you re-imagine what you can do .
2.) Tonya from Budget and the Beach-In the interest of full disclosure-Tonya is a friend of mine! I love her blog because there is an honesty and genuineness that resonates through her posts. Right now things are a little rocky and she’s honest about that. She also uses humor and amazing videos (hire her! ) to talk about money, goals, her life now, and what she wants for the future. I also love that she’s a GenXer like myself.
3.) I really try to find great personal finance blogs from other countries. One of my favorites is written by Maria from The Money Principle. She lives in England and writes detailed thought provoking posts about finance at an elevated level. She also paid off $160,000 of debt in three years. I should also disclose that Maria is a friend as well!
4.)The Frugalwoods-I absolutely love this blog which is kind of new to me. I love the fact that this couple GETS IT. They live a high quality life and save more than 50% of their income so that they can live their dream life. In embracing the type of lifestyle that I do (accidental hipster) I leave myself open to criticism, critique, and skepticism about how living my way will benefit me in the long-run. I know that there are kindred spirits out there and this couple is definitely included on my kindred spirits list.
5.) I absolutely love Single Moms Income and reading (and supporting) Alexa as she grows her freelance business and navigates being a single mom. I also am amazed at how much she hustles! I feel a connection to to Alexa because we seem to think a lot alike and I think of my mom trying to raise me after my parent’s divorce. Alexa’s journey really resonates with me.

Love these picks. For me, I’d have to add Cat from Budget Blonde to the list. She’s got two kids the age of my youngest and she’s home with them. She hustles like mad, of course!
Michelle says
I agree with Cat! She’s actually going to be highlighted in a different post that I’m writing…

Awe thanks so much Michelle! That means the world to me what you said!! I think I get a little inspiration from everyone, but what I love about your blog is your honesty as well. I think there are a lot of blogs with great information, but everything is watered down or just factoids. I love to read the emotion behind people’s blogs and I get that from yours!

I love your blog Tonya! I enjoy it exactly for what you kindly said about mine-there is emotion. I am so bored with graphs, lists of 10 things you can do, blah blah. I want to get to know a person’s story. You share yours and are authentic and that’s why you made my list!

I really appreciate Tonya as well (in part because I am a GenXer) and I also enjoy reading Lisa from Lisa vs the Loans – I just love her aura!
Michelle says
Lisa is so sweet! I am really excited to read about her engagement and getting married process. She does have bad taste in Basketball teams though! LOL (throwing some shade Lisa if you’re reading this comment)
Lisa says
Ooh Michelle, it’s on! Haha!
Michelle says
You read that comment!
Lisa says
It’s funny because I was going to say I’m inspired by you, girl!

Great choices! Tonya at Budget and the Beach, Frugalwoods and Cat from Budget Blonde are also faves. I’m also inspired by Cait from Blonde on a Budget.

Cat is actually going to be highlighted in a totally different post or else I would have added her to this list!

I’ve only read Tonya’s and the Frugal Woods’ sites, but I have to say, EXCELLENT choices! They are awesome, no way around it! I will definitely check out your other picks. There are so many sites I’ve never heard of. It’s great when someone gives you their suggestions! Thanks Michelle! 😀

Absolutely love these picks! It was so great meeting Paula at FinCon! I also adore Tonya and Alexa. FW are just badass too. I would add Cat from Budget Blonde and Cait from Blonde on a Budget. I’d have to add my mentor, Carrie from Careful Cents as well. You inspire me too! You’re always working to better yourself!
Michelle says
Thanks Melanie! You inspire me too. One day we will have to catch up before FinCon15. I should have added Carrie too! And Cat and Cait have been mentioned several times-time for another list 🙂
maria@moneyprinciple says
Michelle, thanks for including me. And I am particularly glad about the disclosure :).

Your welcome! Keep on writing 🙂

Wow, thank you so much Michelle! I’m deeply honored! You are too kind! We are definitely kindred spirits–your post about accidental hipster-ism sounded exactly like me :). I really hope we’re able to meet in real life sometime soon! And, I agree with your other picks too!
Michelle says
I just love how you two are yourselves! Unapologetically. People are so afraid to do what works for them but you aren’t. I love it! We have to meet! But, I usually ride a cruiser 🙂
Toni @ Debt Free Divas says
You inspired me!!!! Great suggestions, I’ll have to check them out.

You inspire me too Toni! These are some wonderful bloggers with varied and interesting voices.
