In my journey to financial stability I have read a lot of books about personal finances, the economy, and anything else out there to help me focus. I listen to Dave Ramsey’s radio show on and off, but usually he begins to make me crazy with some of his ranting and then I tune him out. But, I kept hearing him refer to the book Quitter by Jon Acuff. So, I decided to read it-and I am really glad that I did. If you aren’t familiar with Jon Acuff you may be familiar with his blog “Stuff that Christians Like.” Even though I’m not religious I had heard of this blog. Don’t worry the book is not about religion, but about his journey to doing what he really love which is public speaking and writing books and how he went from being a technical writer at Autotrader.com to doing what he loves. Every person should really read this book. He has a number of observations about the journey to doing your dream job and the relevance of the job you’re currently doing and how what you’re currently doing will influence and feed your passion, even when you don’t think it will. If you are:
1.) Dreaming about becoming a professional-writer, blogger, travel consultant, whatever you are working towards, etc. This book is for you
2.) Unhappy in your current position-this book is for you
3.) Thinking that getting to your dream is taking for freakin’ EVER-this book is for you
4.) If you are tired of the journey-this book is for you
5.) If you are having doubts about ever attaining your dream-this book is for you
Quitter really resonated with me and I am reading it for the third time while applying what he talked about to my personal situation. Spend some time reading, thinking, and analyzing your personal situation after you read this book. Let me know if you had already read it. Did the book resonate with you?
