I can’t watch this video without being moved to tears. On this Martin Luther King, Jr. Day January 21, 2013 as we swear in President Barack Obama it is not lost on me the symbolism of this day in particular.
In this continuing experiment of democracy, freedom and justice we keep fighting and trying to get the experiment right. We were becoming complacent, but I have finally seen some glimmers of a movement against complacency. Protests are good for democracy because we are speaking up and demanding that our voices be heard even if you don’t want to hear what we have to say. Don’t just let things happen to you. Be a part of the change. Don’t take your freedoms for granted. Many people died (and continue to do so) so that you could have the opportunities that you have today. I never forget that.
