But, Hate Thrift Shopping?
Less than $100
I’ve officially broken my shopping habit. BUT, I would be lying if I said that I didn’t enjoy freshening up my wardrobe as the seasons change. I now follow a slightly different process and save thousands of dollars while still being able to be fairly fashionable.
First, get rid of the clothing that you never wore the year before. There is a crazy rule called the 80/20 rule. Basically, you’re more likely than not using only 20% of the clothing that you have in your closet. And, as I purge my closet this year I’m convinced of this truth. By getting rid of what you’re not wearing you’re able to prioritize your favorite pieces of clothing. For most people they have have staple items in their wardrobe. For summer my stable pieces tend to be:
- Maxi dresses
- Rompers
- Jeans
Weirdly enough, I don’t seem to wear shorts often and so I’m thinking about getting rid of them. I’ve also noticed that purging my closet helps me save money by avoid the purchase of duplicate pieces of clothing.

Or, in-person events. If you’re trying to figure out what’s “on-trend” for the year the places listed are where you need to start. Recently I attended a school fundraiser where all of the fashionable moms (they were ALL very fashionable) wore those cute tassel earrings. They also wore:
- Off the shoulder tops
- Cute t-shirts
- Statement skirts
- Cute booties
What did I prioritize for my summer wardrobe? The earrings. I purchased a couple of pairs for a grand total of $13 bucks. I already have all of the other items so that’s all I needed. And, a great pedicure LOL!
In fact, it feels like summer fashion has basically been the same forever. Even though last year (summer 2017) was a little flat because of all of the muted colors. I think that was byproduct of the 2016 election vibe.
What’s Still On-Trend?
- Messy buns-they aren’t going away. Just like sagging pants never seem to go away for men (even though I’m praying on that one).
- Cute Sandals-Have a cute pair of leather/gladiator/simple sandals? They will work. Just make sure your toes look right. D.I.Y. your pedicure or get a professionally done one at the beginning of the season or before the summer wedding you’re attending.
- Athleisure-I don’t think it will ever go away because it’s so comfortable. But, for the love of all that is holy, wear underwear with your leggings and do a see through test. You would be shocked, shocked at how sheer some of your leggings are.
- Rompers-LOVE THEM! They are so easy to dress up or down. But, make sure you get ones that are easy to get out of. There’s nothing worse than being trapped in your romper when you need to go to the bathroom.
- Maxi Dresses-They won’t ever go away.
Focus on keeping your main pieces as classic as possible and then go crazy with the accessories. You’ll be able to wear your clothes a lot longer.

Since I have a budget I stqarted to make a annual list of things to buy, avoiding spending tempation, waiting to buy something and buy only if are on the list, are combo with items I already have and only if I really need, for example I buy every year a new bikini and this year I bought new clothes only during sales:P however I’m totally agree with you!!!!

I really need a new bikini! But, I’m trying to lose weight first LOL! But, if I do buy one, I’ll get it from Target (the prices are great).
