It’s April 15, 2014 and I’m wondering if you filed your taxes yet? Are you doing the mad scramble finding pay stubs, 1099 forms, mortgage interest forms, and the list goes on? Are you now regretting not making an appointment with a tax specialist for a face to face consultation? If you have a fairly basic return: think a couple of jobs, all your forms, and not too many deductions, then H & R Block “free” filing may be a service to consider.
Let’s be clear-you will pay to file your state taxes. The cost is fairly nominal but just understand that the free tax filing service is not totally free. The website is very user friendly and super easy to follow. I would recommend that you have all of your paperwork together so that you can slowly blaze through the process.
I’ve used this service since 2007 and have found it to be pretty straightforward and easy to use. Keep in mind my returns are VERY simple as I’ve worked one job, have basically no deductions, and am single. The more complicated your return is the more I would encourage you to sit down face to face with a live human being. If things are pretty simple then consider using H & R Block’s online service.
You may also want to research free filing services if you meet the income eligibility requirements for the service. Call 411 for more information on those programs. I know that the Denver/Boulder metro area has a number of free filing services my feeling is your region may have free services as well. Give it a try!
Please don’t blindly follow my advice. Take some time to research if this service would be a good fit for your situation and next time-file early 🙂
Good luck!
Michelle
