I wrote a post in January about how I decided to stop buying product until I had used up what I currently have at home. I love product. I am a product addict and could go to a 12 step program to recover from my product love. The picture below shows all of the product that I used up in February. I might also be into stockpiling. But, when the Zombie Apocalypse comes I don’t it will matter if I smell good.
One of my problems is having multiples of the same type of product open and in various stages of use. For example: 3 bath and bodyworks lotions (different scents) and a tub of vaseline. I probably just need one thing of lotion and the vaseline. It is super dry in Colorado so I am using lotions/vaseline every day. The problem was I wasn’t using up what was already open, instead, I would just buy another lotion, etc. This created clutter and lost money.
I took the photo…just sayin’
I use a lot of hand lotion and perfume too 🙂 When Ana from And then We Saved did her No Spend challenge she also noticed that she had a lot of lotion (she mentioned this in a post) so it’s not just me (she is also from Colorado). I like that I’m saving money and getting rid of some of the clutter in my place by doing this.
Free Stuff
I get a lot of free stuff. I always have, and I can’t figure it out. I thought I would begin by listing the free stuff that I’m getting and trying to figure out if I have some process of getting free things that I’m unaware of. This list is for the month of February to March 10, 2013.
1.) My friend bought me a ticket to see John Legend. She is a student and he was playing at her university. Both tickets were $5 dollars. Yes, he only sang to me.
2.) Ski Trip-I went snowboarding a couple of weeks ago. I arranged a trip for the people that I work with. It was work, but my participation was “free” because I was leading the event. Regular cost is $65 for the lift ticket. I already have a snowboard so no equipment rental fees.
3.) Starbucks $2.75 gift card, $5.00 gift card (both online promotions), and a free Tazo Tea from 7-9 pm this week. I stumbled upon that promotion accidently
4.) Free subscription to Latina magazine. Love it!
5.) Free subscription to Ebony magazine. Love it! Just signed up today.
6.) Tickets to the Nuggets vs. Los Angeles Clippers game last week. I took my mom. We sat in section 142 which is a fantastic location. She even caught a parachute t-shirt that was dropped from the sky. Best game ever!! And the Nuggets won. I got these tickets because I organize group events and the person I coordinate with asked if I would like to get some tickets. I said “yes!” Tickets would have cost: $162 (together)
7.) Tickets to the Doyle and Debbie show at the Denver Center for Performing Arts. One of the funniest shows I’ve ever seen. I took my mom she laughed from the moment she sat down until we left. It is hilarious! Tickets would have cost: $80
8.) Free dinner tomorrow at Lala’s courtesy my FinCon Denver Peeps! Got the hook up and got to enjoy great company too. Would have cost around $25 (I didn’t drink)
9.) “Free” trip to Atlanta. I almost didn’t include this one but, I am not paying for it with my own cash. I was accepted into a personal development program that is offered through the professional organization that I belong to. I paid for this with blood, sweat and tears. There are two other trips for this program. I am excited to participate and am learning a lot. I know the cost, but I’m not going to mention it.
EXTRA MONEY IS ON MY MIND
Michelle from Making Sense of Cents is my Extra Money guru!!! She is cool for several reasons:
- Michelle spells her name with two “l”s not one
- Her name is Michelle
- She is a making extra money MACHINE! She hustles!!
I had already decided to challenge myself to make extra money before I discovered her blog. I want to make a lot of extra money. I always try to make more…but, I think that I have had the idea that I couldn’t make a lot of extra money because I work full time. I’ve always had the idea that to make extra money I’d have to work at the mall or at a coffee shop. Basically, working at a physical location. There was one big problem with that plan: I don’t want to work retail again because I always spend my money when I’m in the mall. I want to work from home! Michelle has been making thousands of dollars every month from home/online and has proved that if there is a will there is a way. I want to work smarter. So, I am going to see what can happen and not set limits on what I can do. Thanks Michelle for inspiring me!!
EXTRA Money for February
- $100 for Library Talk that I gave about Thrift Shopping
- $30 Amazon Gift Card-I did a survey for an online business creating a new website
- $45 Groupon Refund because business closed (I had purchased a massage)
- Total:$175-nice!

Michelle’s are ALWAYS awesome!
I know what you mean. Up until last year, I thought that only way I could make extra money was by getting a little part-time job. Online income is the way to go!

You have opened my eyes to the possibilities Michelle!!! The online $ will balance out the cost of my computer-hehe….

Hey lady! How are you? Great article… gotta go through my Sh$t now and take inventory!

Haha! Am great. How are you?? Right now I’m in Atlanta for a conference. It was getting to be ridiculous dealing with all of the product in my house. Sadly, I did purchase travel sized stuff for the trips I’m taking this year. Last time I forgot to do that and I ended up getting my regular sized product tossed out by the TSA.

You scored some pretty sweet freebies! I once got Mets tickets for giving blood. They weren’t super fabulous seats, but they were free and bf and I had a good time. My middle name is Michelle (“double L” Michelle’s are awesome :-)).

I got more freebies this week! Is it really free when you give blood? They should have put you in the club seats! And, yes you are awesome 🙂

This week I contemplated buying an expensive eye cream. Then I thought I would check what I already had. 8 of ’em. 8. I realised I had no need of another!

Good lord! The process of buying something is so tantalizing though. Sorting through the items, looking at the packaging, comparing prices, and looking forward to opening them when you get home. I just bought some travel sized items because I am going on several trips. The hotel I was at last week had Bath and Bodyworks Travel sized orange and ginger products. I stocked up!! I was running out of it at home and feeling kind of sad because it’s one of my favorite scents.

I have’t been able to focus on extra income lately, which isn’t too bad since my freelancing work has been going well, but once it slows down I’m going to sell some things. I have no idea how Michelle can work full time and make that much each month. Crazy! John Legend….niiiiiice! 🙂

I almost cried at one point as he focused on me and sang “Tonight.” Oh wait, that was in my dreams! Michelle is a badass. I can’t believe how much she hustles. She is my extra money idol. I wish I had stuff to sell. But, I really don’t.
