I’m a little bit embarrassed to admit that I lost steam in November and am just now coming around to publishing my November blog income report…in January of 2019 LOL! November was an interesting month because I had a couple of things happen that I didn’t expect.
*In order for me to support my blogging activities, I may receive monetary compensation or other types of remuneration for my endorsement, recommendation, testimonial and/or link to any products or services from this blog. Please read my disclosure here.*
Retreats and Exhaustion
At the beginning of November I had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Cents Positive Retreat. That retreat was created for women in the F.I.R.E. (Financial Independence Retire Early) Community. It was an incredible opportunity to connect with likeminded people focused on a very specific aspect of personal finance.
Around this time I noticed (as I do every year at this time) that I was freaking tired. Seriously, I run out of steam every November and this year was worse than previous years. And, that kind of sucked because I have products that I wanted to sell and I waited too late to set things up.
In fact, because of how this year went, I am working a 10 month year in 2019. There’s no point in pretending that I want to work in November and December. I never do. Fortunately, I’m running a digital business and won’t be making any products this summer. Everything is pretty much ready to rock and roll. The downside to working a 10 month year is that I will have to absorb those two months worth of work into the earlier part of the year.
I’m up for the challenge!
The other thing that happened was I tweaked (hurt) my back on Thanksgiving and it took almost 5 weeks to get better. In fact, my back hurt so badly that I was unable to go snowboarding when I was in Breckenridge at the beginning of December and I had trouble sleeping at my favorite hostel. I’ve always slept incredibly well at my favorite hostile before. But, I had a hard time getting in and out of the bed, walking, and lifting.
It was so painful that I refuse to carry anything heavier than 5 pounds for awhile. I’m happy to say that my back is ok, but I never want to experience that kind of pain in my life. NEVER. It was so scary.
By the way, yes-the election season tired me out.
Some Thoughts
You will notice that my earnings have decreased. In fact, December also continues that trend as well. Some things that I wish I did differently going into the holiday season.
- Onboard my blogger affiliate buddies into my course in September. However, that wouldn’t have worked because I launched my course in July. I wouldn’t have had enough feedback on the course to really onboard affiliates.
- Create a nice landing page for my product. In fact, one of my friends (who also happens to be an affiliate) recommended that I create a nice landing page for the course. She’s also in my Mastermind group-I listened to her LOL!! You can check it out HERE.
- Create course related marketing collateral that my affiliates could share.
- My romance novels also had fewer sales. I’m in a number of self-publishing groups online and apparently this is typical for digital books at this time of year. Basically, people are purchasing physical books as gifts. Did you get your copy of “Becoming” yet???
- I also should have written books that were holiday themed and released them at the beginning of November.
- Send more emails. And, grow my freaking email list. That is my number one focus for 2019.
November 2018 Blog Income Report
Please note, my blog income reports ONLY show income that I’ve actually been paid. The reports do not include in the final total: partial payments or pending payouts. There is no point in sharing that I made $20 dollars with an affiliate that won’t payout until the total hits $100. It’s deceptive and actually pretty confusing to keep up with as well. Finally, these reports are currently focused on passive income earned only. Freelance writing and side-hustle money currently are not included in the earnings totals.
$860.96
- $297 Course Sales-Yep, this is pretty low for the holiday season. But, I received so many freaking emails from people selling courses, etc. that I now understand why people like:
- Kimra Luna
- Ruth Soukup
- Marie Forleo
Put their courses on sale during the Spring. It’s a lot less “noisy” online and easier to get in front of people who would like to purchase products for self-improvement and business growth. By the way, Kimra and Marie sell their courses throughout the year and then offer a nice discount during the Spring. Or, they sell a new product. Ruth only sells her signature course Elite Blog Academy once a year during the Spring. While people DO purchase courses during the holiday months, I think that most people prefer to purchase fun items such as clothing, trips, etc. Items that would be considered treats. In fact, I’m of the same mindset LOL! So, next year I’ll probably share a small coupon code at that time of year, but do an actual launch during the Spring.
- $540.66 Autumn Stone Romances-These are book sales that occurred in September. Payouts happen 60 days after the month that the money is earned. Make sure to pick up your fun, smutty romance today!
- $23.40 Ibotta-I love Ibotta! It’s a Colorado based savings app. I use it to save on groceries. Sign up with my affiliate code today. Earn $10 towards your first payout of $20 after you redeem your first savings.
Pending Payout
The amount below are the earnings that I made for my books in November. This will be paid out at the end of January.
- $208.04 (earned but not paid out-books) This is what I earned in November in book sales. It’s a fairly significant drop. And December is even worse. I should mention that the last time I published a book was October. Again, I run out of steam every freaking November.
Non-Cash Affiliate
$20 ThredUp-Don’t laugh, but I can’t figure out where my last ThredUp affiliate link is embedded. I literally do not advertise this affiliate anymore even though I love ThredUp! It’s an online consignment shop with some great items on it.

Thinking About Starting a Blog?
I love blogging! It has been an incredible experience, transformed my life, and connected me with a ton of amazing people. Blogging is a pretty cheap activity and I recommend hosting your blog with Siteground. Many bloggers have begun leaving HostGator and BlueHost and moving to Siteground. Myself included! Read why I’m leaving HostGator and BlueHost (I have 2 blogs one on each hosting platform) and moving to Siteground. If you’re a new blogger Siteground will cost around $3.95 a month (depending on the size of your audience). They have great customer service and tutorials on how to host your new WordPress blog on Siteground
Online Business Resources
If you’re thinking about starting an online business, the resources below are a great way to get started.
- The Ultimate List of FinCon Community Products
- Courses
- Books
- Swag
- Make Money with Ebooks–There is more than one way to make money with your writing skills. I’ve created this course to help inspire, educate, and support writers who are sitting on a book idea…and are afraid to write it. This is YOUR year. Make Money with Ebooks is offered at three different tiers to meet different student needs.
- Self-Study
- Group Program-Includes access to the closed Facebook Group and twice a month live office hours.
- VIP Program-Includes access to the closed Facebook Group, twice a month live office hours, and 2 meetings with Michelle to work on book related strategies, goals, etc.
- Making Sense of Affiliate Income-If you’re looking to make affiliate income with your blog, Michelle Schroeder-Gardner’s course is the course that I recommend. She makes well over a $1 Million a year blogging and the biggest chunk of her income comes from affiliate marketing.
- $10KVA–Are you curious about becoming a Virtual Assistant as a side-hustle or a potential full-time gig? My friend Kayla Sloan is killing it as a Virtual Assistant and schooling other entrepreneurs in how to become a VA that earns on average $10KVA. This course is what I recommend as the first part of creating a virtual assistant business.
- IMark Interactive–Grayson Bell helps me with all of my website related tech issues and he is THE go to guy for WordPress related tech in the several different blogging niches (all the Personal Finance peeps work with him).
- Elite Blog Academy-Many bloggers have gone through this course and I consider this course the “Granddaddy” of all blogging courses. It’s not cheap, but in additional to getting all of the resources that are key to building an incredible blog, you’re also become a part of an insanely supportive (and huge) community of bloggers. Many of whom are making crazy money.
