At the beginning of 2018 I began to share income reports related to my online projects. I say online projects because I don’t just run this blog. In fact, I run two blogs and two podcasts. For the past 10 months, I’ve spent a lot of time finishing up rebranding my website and figuring out what my specific focus would be about moving forward. It has been incredibly tiring and I understand why so many people give up during this process. My October 2018 Blog Income report is a reflection of this shift in focus and purpose and I’m excited to finally be consistently bringing in income with my online facing projects.

October 2018 Blog Income Report
A couple of things I would like to point out about my blog income reports. I show only income earned during the month. I have begun to show additional income earned that will hit my account 30 or 60 days from the month that we’re currently in. I’ve begun to do that to show the difference in how these reports can be illustrated to show overall earnings.
Also, it’s important to note that I do not include the following types of income earned in these reports (even though I track it on the backend):
- Freelance writing-I still have some freelance writing clients. Initially, I was very leery about including that income in these reports because I felt that it would distract me from focusing on growing passive income-my #1 love. Seriously, I love it so much. It’s like a dopamine rush each time I get an affiliate income notification. Many of you will be shocked today when I mention that I am adding freelance writing clients to my revenue stream. What changed? I am making money with my ebooks, my course, and coaching. I no longer am worried that I will accidentally work myself into a freelancing career where that’s my primary revenue stream. That’s no longer an issue. And, I’ve gotten much faster at writing. It takes me a lot less time to write projects and turn them in.
- Side-Hustles-Currently, it is looking like November 21st will be my last day actively side-hustling. This is a move that I’ve talked about on and off during the year and hedged on. The thing is…my side-hustle is still a lot of fun. The problem is that side-hustles take time away from growing my business. And, my side-hustles are primarily worked on the weekends. It’s now time to change what I consider my side-hustle.
- Earnings Under the Threshold-Why do people share earnings that haven’t reached the earnings’ threshold? It’s really weird and confusing. Yes, I’m proud that you earned money, no it’s not exciting until it’s actually in your bank account. And, let’s be honest it can take awhile to hit your earnings threshold. Google Adsense is a great example of this if you’re not getting a ton of page views on your blog. It’s hard to grow that income.
October 2018 Earnings- $862.52
This is a big dip from September, but I’m not too worried about it. There were some things that I was working on in preparation for for the Holiday Season sales in November.
- Make Money With Ebooks-ZERO Dollars LOL! There were no course sales during October. What happened? I decided to focus on actually running the course and preparing to pull it out of the beta phase that it has been in since I launched it. I’ve raised the price and broke the course into three different segments of learning. I think that having choices, a payment plan option, and several months’ worth of feedback on the course will make it even better for the next cohort of students that come into the course. These changes are better for future students, will be great for my course affiliates, and for me! My hope will be to sell a number of courses in November and I have a minimum number in mind for sales. As part of this push, I plan on reaching out to affiliates who understand affiliate marketing, have a community that would love to write books…but, the affiliate has no interest in creating a course to address that need. And, I will reach out to a very small number of bloggers who have reached out to me about the course and have expressed that they are unable to afford it right now.
- Autumn Stone Romances-$828.04-My books did really well in August and this is my payout from that month. Book payouts hit accounts 60 days after the month that the money is earned. I’m already aware of what I will make at the end of November and December. Currently, I’m working on my November book strategy with an eye on Holiday Sales. There is a strategy that I’m working and I’m excited to see what happens. By the way, I sell both fiction and non-fiction books.
- Amazon Affiliates $8.48-Not too worried about this as I don’t focus hardcore on Amazon Affiliates. It’s just nice to have payouts from Amazon consistently each month.
- Ibotta $26-My favorite savings app! Love Ibotta so much. In the past couple of months I’ve noticed that my savings options have gotten much more accurate. Basically, the products that they show me match my shopping habits better. They do a ton of user testing so I’m sure that that has to be a part of why the app has improved. If you’re looking to save money on shopping (and groceries in particular) sign up with my affiliate link and earn $10 when you redeem your first savings. That $10 dollars will go towards your $20 dollar payout threshold.
Non-Cash Affiliate Earnings $70
- Hello Fresh $30-There is nothing better than having food waiting for you on your doorstep. As a result of earning an additional $30 in affiliate earnings on my Hello Fresh account, I was able to order a box for free. The meals were delicious and there were even leftovers.
- ThredUp $40-My new favorite color is RED! And, I’m wanting to wear it all of the time. It’s a good luck color in China. All I know is that the top I kept looking at on the H&M website was also on the ThredUp website with tags (brand new!) I was able to get that top for free and I ordered a new turtleneck in red as well
Pending Earnings-$287 Ebooks
September was a crazy busy month and I ended up not publishing any new books from August 27 until the second week of October. I still made passive income. Now that things have quieted down, I’m back to releasing new books and I’ve noticed a couple of things:
- It takes about 3 weeks for each book to gain traction. Currently I’m not aggressively marketing my books. Both my fiction and non-fiction books sell at a decent rate without marketing. YES, I will be aggressively marketing my books moving forward LOL!
- My email list for my books has a sign up rate of over 50%-if they like the book, they usually subscribe to stay in the loop.
- It took awhile for the earnings to drop about 7 weeks and they still are pretty decent.
- Picking a lucrative genre makes a huge difference in your success.
Total Earned in October $1,149.52
This is the total that I’ve earned including the pending book payments. Those will payout at the end of December, but I thought it was important to show that I’m starting to consistently earn passive income from various sources. And, my intuition not to focus primarily on freelancing was right-I’m sure that I might not have written my book if I made freelancing my primary revenue focus.
Again, this report is focused on passive income only. I did make money in other ways during the month.
