So, am feeling like it’s time for another “No Spend Month” My idea is to piggyback on the other no spend ideas that toyed with such as grocery shopping as little as possible, while still eating well. Using up the groupons/living social deals, etc. that I already have so that I can still still go out. I have spent some time looking at different people’s processes and have discovered some interesting things: some people still seem to spend during their no spend month. Obviously, you need to spend on groceries and other necessities, but I must admit that I am curious about the idea of having a “buffer” to use during a no spend month. Any thoughts about this?? The other issue is, I begin my yearly pantry project around this time. What’s the pantry project? Basically, I replenish my pantry and prepare for the winter months. Items include both food and hygienic items. So, typically I am spending money on these items at this time of year. It is so hot though this year that I might wait until September to start the pantry project.
So here is what I am looking at for the “No Spend Month”
1.) No unnecessary spending on going out.
2.) No purchasing of coffee during the week
3.) Keep grocery spending to a minimum without affecting quality of my food, and without affecting my health
4.) Grocery shopping would likely be once a week or every other week
5.) Find fun things to do that are free
6.) No clothing shopping-since I have only spent $12 this summer on clothes (cute sandals and a top-magical Goodwill) not too worried about it.
7.) Am also thinking about gym memberships. I actually use my memberships! But, I like to rotate with different activities. Hot Yoga (Bikram) starts in September as the weather cools off. There is a yoga studio 1 block from my office, so I go during the week. It’s so refreshing! I also tend to go to the gym more as the weather cools off. Since I work for a university I have access to the recreation center. The next two years will be tricky though, because they are doing a major expansion of the gym so it will be challenging to get on the equipment during my break. So, I’m thinking about joining the recreation center in the park near my place. I do use it, but, would have to use it during the evenings. This is challenging because of my commute. Am still trying to figure it out!
9.) No purchasing of books/magazines (hard to do because of the September issue of every magazine!)
10.) No library fines-this is still an issue
Will see how it goes. Last week I kind of failed at the vegetarian during the week eating plan. It had been going really well, but I have gotten a little disorganized! Will begin again when I plan next week’s menu
