Using my Sh$t!
I cannot believe how much product I’ve used up this summer. Some of the items pictured are products that I’ve had for awhile, then I got bored with them and purchased additional products. The old product was still perfectly fine, I just wanted something “new and fresh!” Isn’t that typical? I cannot believe how long it has taken me to intentionally use up what I already have in my home. Because of my experience using up my product, I’ve learned a couple of things.
- You only need 1/2 of the stuff that is currently in your house.
- You have to be intentional about using your sh$t up! Since I’ve started these posts I’ve used up a number of items that have been “in progress” for awhile. It takes longer than you would expect to use up lotion.
- Colorado is really, really dry. I use lotion and vaseline for my skin. This dual moisturizing process works well for me, I just had a TON of lotion.
- I will approach stocking up for next year in a different way. I will go through my posts and add up what I used. For example, if I used up 3 bottles of shampoos in a year, then I obviously don’t need 6 bottles of shampoo.
- I really love product.
- For people with families I would love to hear about how you deal with overstocking product. Using product, and staying frugal.
My pic. Products include: lotion, shampoo, deodorant, vaseline, perfume, body wash, hair oil, shaving oil. Yes, I do use all this product. It takes a lot to look this good without surgery. LOL!
***My normal post dates are Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. This week I will have bonus post on Thursday. I’ll be talking about my weight loss journey. These bonus posts will be every other week.***

It takes SO long to use up lotion! I had a ridiculous stock of lotion because our employer tends to give Bath & Body Works gift baskets for holidays. So instead of trying to use up 10 bottles of lotion, I decided to sell them. I’m meeting someone from Craigslist to buy them today. Yay!
I like your idea of keeping track of how much product you use in a year, so you know how much to buy ahead of time. I’ve learned that having a bunch of product just sitting in storage bugs me. I end up feeling anxious about the product spoiling before I have time to use it. So I’d rather buy things as I need them.

I am really obsessed with Bath and Bodyworks, however, my bathroom was beginning to look like a store. I like that I am working through everything and that the clutter has been cut down by a substantial amount. I’m trying to cut down what’s in my home and have a much more organized/streamlined home. Colorado is freaking dry though, Anna from And Then We Saved lives in Colorado and in a blog post mentioned that she had a ton of lotion too!

Before I buy a new set of beauty products for myself, I make sure the ones I have currently are or almost empty. This is to make sure I get to use what I have.

I wish I could do this. The problem is I get so excited about all of the product out there! Right now I’ve really avoided all shopping so I have no idea what is out there. I haven’t mentioned all the sample sized products that I have. That’s a whole other post!

“I’ve learned that having a bunch of product just sitting in storage bugs me. I end up feeling anxious about the product spoiling before I have time to use it.” I feel the same way, Katie. That’s the reason why I don’t buy too many products even though sometimes I like them.

I never really worry about spoilage or anything along those lines (maybe I should!) the issue for me became the clutter and the waste of money. The products weren’t lying around-they were hidden away, but I am actively trying to cut down on what I have in my place. I feel really good about using all this stuff up!

Thanks for the tips! As a mother of three daughters, I find that if I buy a product that I don’t love, I let them try it, then they are getting something new as well – without spending extra money, and the product gets used 🙂 Sometimes they really want to try something new when we are out shopping, and if I let them, I can try it too. Sharing is great way to not be wasteful, and to use what we have.

Sharing is a great way to use what you’ve got. I don’t have siblings or kids so I have to be really careful when making purchases so that my home isn’t overrun with stuff. Right now I’m working through all of my product that I purchased in preparation for working for myself.
