For the past 5 or so years (easily) I have been asking myself a series of different questions that basically all came down to this: Is this it? Is this what I signed up for? My life can’t just be this-stressed, broke, single, and about to buy a pet (dog, not a cat). Watching The Amazing Race and wishing it was me. So, I started reading books and beginning to ask the question: what will make me happy? What would I enjoy doing every day? As time went on I would stumble upon videos, t.v. shows, etc that would pose the following question: What if money didn’t matter? What would you do? How would you live your life? Do you ever ask yourself this question? I encourage you to take some time (by yourself, and envision your dream life.
My list included:
1.) I would enjoy helping people look their best. I love helping people create their personal style! Love it. Fashion magazines are part of my porn collection (Food, Fashion, and Travel) I would do this for free and actually already do this for friends who ask.
2.) Food is a passion. I would love to create meals for small groups of people visiting Denver from overseas or from other states. I found out about this concept when researching my trip to Argentina. I also discovered that there are similar dinners all over the world. I would host one once every other month. My place is tiny…but maybe I could invite 4 people?Hmm…
3.)Dance was my life for a really, really long time. The connection to music would almost put me in a trance. The perfectly executed performance created an endorphin rush that still can’t be beat. Dance made feel comfortable with my body and connected me with the magic of a moment framed by music. It is time to take dance again.
4.) Volunteering-Though I am frustrated by where I am on an emotional level, intellectually I totally understand that I am extremely blessed. It is important for me not to take my blessings for granted. In the past I have collected personal hygiene products (a lot) and donated them to a wonderful program in Denver called The Gathering Place that provides a safe and clean space for women and their children during the day. It provides a number of services that are invaluable to women dealing with poverty and housing stress. I am exploring ways to give more to this and other programs that I feel passionate about.
5.) Travel-I love the feeling of exploring the social norms of a foreign country. The concept of time, work culture, the idea of family are all intoxicating puzzles that I want to piece together. I am hoping to live abroad again in the next couple of years for 3 months-2 years. I’m not picky!
What if money didn’t matter? What’s on your list? Are you surprised? As I blog I keep thinking about one of the best blogposts I’ve ever read on Frugal Beautiful If you’re I blogger you should read it. If you are just on a personal journey think about the questions the post poses and tweak it to your situation. Maybe you’ve hit a speed bump in your life-or several. Now, how do you intend to keep moving forward?
