***Several bloggers have written about Christmas -I wrote this awhile ago so now I’m posting it***
I have begun to see and hear the first hints of Christmas. If you haven’t then you haven’t gone outside your house or have a t.v. It is 89 days before Christmas and I’m wondering if you’ve gotten started on your Holiday Planning yet? The thing is Christmas is never a surprise. We always know that it’s coming. So, why is that people always sound so surprised when Christmas is officially around the corner? Why do people spend crazy amounts of money when you could patiently build your list and start knocking down the gifts. Shop sales, you get the picture. So, I thought I would write a short post on things to think about for the Holiday Season.
- Gifts-who are would you like to give gifts to?
- Budget-How much do you want to spend per person, for the entire holiday?
- Travel-Do you plan on traveling anywhere? Is it possible to purchase the tickets now? Watch out for blackout dates when purchasing your tickets!
- Holiday Meal-What do you typically spend on your holiday meal?
- Decorations-Do you plan on decorating your home?
- Dining Out-Do you go out more during the holidays?
- Holiday Clothing-Do you have going out clothes for the holidays? Look in your closet.
- Feeding Guests-Do you have family coming to stay for a couple of days? Friends from out of town? Your groceries will higher while they are there.
- Entertainment-What do you typically like to do? Go to the Theater, Ballet, Basketball, Ice Skating, or the movies.
- Sales Shopping-Let’s be honest, most people start shopping from Black Friday on. Think about ways to stay within budget. Just carry cash! Write down lists of what you want.
- The Electric Bill!-you may have the heat up higher, lights on all the time, and cooking a lot more than usual. Your electric bill will be higher.
- Donations-I typically donate quite a bit during the holiday season. What will you donate? To whom? and to which organizations?
When you break down all of the possible costs it’s hardly surprising that we’re caught off guard by how much we’ve spent during the holiday season. Look at the past two holiday seasons and put together a rough taking into account any changes that may have come up. Limit the number of gifts you give to each person-especially small children. Remember the cardboard box was voted the #1 children’s toy of all time (I think…or should have been LOL).
