I hate it when people tell other people that they are too old to do something. Maybe YOU’RE too old to do whatever it is, but don’t set limits on someone else’s possibilities.
I was watching a t.v. show about a man who learned to read in his 90’s (last year!!) he was functionally illiterate his whole life. Then, his wife who would read for him died. He was left alone and isolated because he could read. A volunteer heard about this and decided to work with him and was able to teach him how to read.
I started reading when I was 2 1/2 years old. Obviously not big words but that’s when the love affair started. I can’t imagine having so many magical worlds closed to me.
There is always someone older and younger than you. If you want to learn something go for it! Don’t listen to what other people say is possible. You should define what is possible for you. The only one who can limit you-is you!
If you’re 22, 32, 42, 52, 62 who gives a sh$t, it’s your life. Do what makes you happy. Don’t be crazy. And don’t endanger your physical well-being. But, I would encourage you to dream big. You have endless possibilities.
Have fun.

Learning to master a new skill is an amazing self-confidence boast. I learned how to knit when I was in college and learning a new skill felt amazing. Although I didn’t feel “too old” to learn, there were definitely times I wanted to give up, but I didn’t and in the end I’m so glad I took the time to challenge myself. Ps. I think it’s awesome and amazing that that gentleman learned to read at 90 years old!

I love learning new things. I sometimes hear from people that they are “too old” to do something. I just read that as fear. So what if you’re too old, does it mean that you shouldn’t try? This year I plan on learning how to: sew, can, speak Spanish (better), and urban forage! That’s not including all the blog related stuff I plan on learning.

Well said, Michelle.. and a nice reminder 🙂
We only get this one life, this one body, this one chance to do something great in the world. We can’t let fear hold us back..

I lost sight of this for awhile, but have been pretty good about learning something new every year.

Love this, Michelle! I remember watching a bunch of dance class videos and seeing an elderly man (prob in his early 60s) learning hip hop! It was incredibly adorable and inspiring at the same time. It definitely convinced me to be a lifelong learner.

Isn’t he lovely! I think people get this idea that they have to stop learning after 21 (or college). It’s absolutely ridiculous. In order to stay youthful and vibrant you have to keep learning.
